Last night was a beautiful night.
Last night, I attended a fantastic benefit concert sponsored by Sam’s Hope for a Cure. I went for a couple reasons. One: my husband and I are huge fans of Mindy Gledhill, the singer-songwriter who opened up her lovely studio for the event and performed for our group. Her songs are on the videos we made commemorating the births of our children–that’s how much we love her! An intimate concert in her studio? Sign me up.
Second (and more important): I have a friend from college and she is the aunt to two beautiful little boys, Sam and Lars. Sam and Lars have a rare genetic disease called cystinosis. Cystinosis is not kind. It takes its time destroying every organ in the body and there is currently no cure. These sweet boys are on a strict and busy schedule of medications and treatments, aimed at improving their quality of life and letting them do all the things little boys love to do–run and jump and play. And live. Sam’s Hope for a Cure is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization and all the money the raised goes straight to the Cystinosis Research Foundation. This foundation is dedicated to studying this disease, fighting it, and curing it. And they are on the brink of some amazing things!
Inspired by the generosity of everyone in attendance at last night’s concert, I want to help pay it forward. I am pledging to give 5% of everything I earn as a doula and as a childbirth educator between now and Christmas to Sam’s Hope for a Cure. Because they need our help.
I hope you’ll join me and find a way that you can pay it forward. Money, time, service, even just reaching out to someone you know is hurting. Let’s all make the world a little bit better.
