Welcome to July and this week’s edition of The Weekly Birth Bulletin!
The Weekly Birth Links
This article looks at the potential of Medicaid coverage for doula services. Although I support the idea, especially if it would give lower-income families access to doula care, one big drawback at this point is that Medicaid would only pay doulas about $400 per birth. This is below the average rate here in Utah and would make it difficult for doulas to actually make any money from their job.
I enjoyed this BuzzFeed piece highlighting the great things that dads do. Sometimes popular culture gets a kick out of putting dads down. This post reminds everyone that dads are actually pretty great.
Did you hear about this crazy birth in California? She births alone in the woods after getting lost (according to one version, at least), wards of bees and mosquitoes, and then starts a small forest fire in an attempt to get rescue crews to her! That is some birth story!
The Weekly Birth Video
This week’s video comes from www.babycenter.com. I remember watching this very video when I was preparing for my own births. Strong mother, great support team, beautiful baby–doesn’t get much better than this!
The Weekly Meme
I couldn’t help it! I currently have my own “surprise pooper” at home–sometimes you never realize they are stinky until you go to change their diaper!
