The Weekly Birth Bulletin – June 18th

June 18, 2015

Birth Bulletin

Welcome to this week’s edition of The Weekly Birth Bulletin!

The Weekly Birth Links

A great guide to what kind of food to bring a family that has just welcomed a new baby. No prep work required, no long visit, and a bunch of healthy snacks–just some of the great recommendations!

One birth worker recommends spending less time debating the pros and cons of various strollers and more time preparing for the rite of passage that is birth. And I agree.

Shout out to my home state of North Carolina and UNC’s Center for Women’s Mood Disorders. It makes me glad to see perinatal mood disorders getting attention and resources being built to support women working through those struggles.

On my must-read-soon list is a book called Birth, Breath, and Death: Meditations on Motherhood, Chaplaincy, and Life as a Doula by Amy Glenn. Here’s a lovely piece that takes a closer look at Glenn’s work and the impact of narrative and story in our lives.

The Weekly Birth Video
This video highlights lots of great positions for laboring. I love when she says “I just really want to poop!” Her midwife replies, “Well, but that’s not what’s going on here.” If I had a nickel for every time I’ve heard a client say she needs to poop…

The Weekly Meme

Because who doesn’t love a good meme?
