Welcome to this week’s edition of The Weekly Birth Bulletin!
The Weekly Birth Links
In a move I wish more businesses would make, Richard Branson of the Virgin Group announces a 1-year paid leave for new mothers and fathers. Bravo! And I agree with him–the more you invest in your employees and their home life, the better your business will perform.
Have any questions about Group B Strep in pregnancy and birth? Well, here is the definitive guide to evidence-based research and practices. There’s a lot of things to consider and this compilation of research findings will help the decision process.
Coming up on Saturday, June 20th, is the 3rd Annual “Climb Out of the Darkness.” This worldwide event consists of people hiking and walking to raise awareness for perinatal mood and anxiety disorders–such an important issue that could really use more exposure and research! If you live in Utah, groups will be meeting in Springville, Salt Lake City, and Ogden to hike for the cause.
The Weekly Birth Video
This week’s video is a hospital birth where mom elects to get an epidural around 7 cms. I love her upbeat attitude and how calm she is. Sorry that they skip over the actual birth. Some hospitals don’t let you film the birth, so that might have been the case here. I like this video because you see things from start to finish–from her water breaking (which happened to be her first sign of labor) to her leaving the hospital with her baby.
The Weekly Meme
The English M.A. in me is just ignoring the lack of punctuation marks and apostrophes in this one…Too cute not to share!
