Welcome to this week’s edition of The Weekly Birth Bulletin!
The Weekly Birth Links
Remember how I discussed the power of affirmations during birth? Well, a childbirth educator and doula in my area named Lauralyn Curtis compiled a list of gorgeous affirmations focused on women and their relationships with their bodies. She even created a printable version! Here’s just one of my (many) favorites from this list: “My body is wise and my intuition is strong.”
Over on BellyBelly, Maria Pyanov wrote a great article called, “9 Changes We Must Make to Increase Vaginal Birth Rates” and it’s been making the rounds in birthing communities. She recommends low-risk providers for low-risk women, more doulas at the sides of birthing women, keeping women off their backs, and more. Great suggestions and a good read for anyone in the birth world, from an expectant mother to the most seasoned provider.
Lacey Parr, another Utah birth worker, wrote a great post that asks us to rethink the typical baby registry. What about registering for doula support, or for funds to pay for postpartum doula care? I think it’s a brilliant idea.
The Weekly Birth Video
This week, I am sharing a lovely video of a home water birth brought to you by Maria Sotolongo. What I love about this birth is how the mother placed affirmations around her birthing space and even repeated them to herself during surges. She’s speaking in Spanish, but what she is telling herself is, “You can do it.” A powerful beautiful birth.
